Our touring has hit a comfortable rhythm. The morning is slow with the four of us waking and finding our own breakfast. Generally we pick up yogurt and cereal from the local grocery store and also purchase apples, cheese and bread for an afternoon picnic. By 10:00 am we begin the search of the perfect coffee shop. Besides the requirement for freshly ground and brewed coffee, the cafe must have spectacular views. We noticed that most New Zealanders take time for a proper coffee break and we’ve enjoyed the tradition. Afterwards we start the day with a hike or tour. We’ve been down several gravel roads leading to deserted beaches or mountain tops of stunning beauty. Fortunately we’ve only had one flat tire to repair. There are no words to describe the sights, so photos will suffice.
Originally Abby planned to return to the states with us but has decided to extend her stay. Tonight three of us will fly back to Los Angeles. It’s time for Tim to return to Iowa and for Stephen and me to retrieve our camper and explore National Parks in the southwest. But….we’ve got one more big event to attend this weekend. We are headed to San Diego to meet up with my siblings and their families for a party. One year ago my sister Jane endured a stem cell transplant and we are celebrating her recovery and remission. This is a special time and we want to mark the occasion.
